Google Nest Mini vs Home Mini: What's the difference?

Use the Home app to control on/off, volume, playback, inputs, and more for your connected streaming and media devices. The Home tab gives you shortcuts for the things you do most, like playing music or dimming the lights when you want to start a movie. Control it all with just a tap or two – and get to the good stuff faster. The Feed tab highlights important events in your home in one place.

Nest is a company that Google purchased and folded into their own line of smart devices. The Nest name has subsequently been attached to various devices, including an improved version of the Google Home Mini. So the Nest Mini is essentially just a slightly more expensive, and slightly better, version of the Google Home Mini. There is a control panel on the device body, so you can easily access the volume control or remote without having to interact with a cable or another device it's connected to. Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard that allows data transfers between devices placed in close proximity, using short-wavelength, ultra-high frequency radio waves.

The design of both speakers is almost identical as they are the same size and have a fabric covering. The major difference is that the Nest Mini features recycled materials. Unlike the Home Mini, the Nest Mini comes with a built-in wall mount. It also provides better sound, with improved bass response, although the physical speakers in both devices use 40mm drivers. The Google Home has a single speaker with two passive radiators, which really help it produce decent sound for a device of its size. The Home Mini, on the other hand, has a smaller speaker and lacks the passive radiators.

By doing so, Dolby Atmos allows for immersive, 360-degree sound. The Mini costs so little, however, that it’s practically an impulse buy. As a result, you can pick one up and give it a try with little risk. Plus, if you upgrade to a better speaker later, you can keep the Mini in the mix by moving it to a different room to extend your smart home functionality.

Google Home Mini and Google Nest Mini: Google Assistant

They have created these awesome smart home hubs that have touch displays and gives a beautiful look to your kitchen, living room, or wherever you install it. But besides being so connected in between, there are certain key differences to help you understand why aren’t the same and how you can take out the most of them in some simple steps. If you want a Google smart speaker, you might as well go for the new and improved model. On the Google Nest Mini, you can play or pause music by tapping its top button.

The Nest Mini is slightly smaller than the Home Mini, but the difference is minute enough that it barely matters. If you already have one or more Google Home devices, then the Home Mini is a great way to extend the same functionality you're familiar with into every room in your house. This is especially important if you have a lot of smart devices in your home, as the Home Mini represents an affordable way to control those devices from every part of your house. For connectivity, the Google Home Mini can connect to both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless networks, supports Chromecast and Chromecast Audio, and accepts audio inputs via Bluetooth 4.1.

Google Home vs. Google Home Mini: Which should you buy?

Smart homes are taking over in a big way, and Google provides some of the best options out there. Even so, there is still plenty of confusion over what exactly each part of Google’s connected home ecosystem does. You can fix it by adding a delay action for your desired amount of time and then another action that says stop. Here's everything you need to know about the Google Home and Nest devices to help you work out which is right for you.

You can also mute the Mini by voice, which then presents confusion when it is muted, but the switch is in the listening position. The Home Mini comes in three colors — light gray, dark gray, and coral red — all entirely inoffensive and designed to blend discreetly into a modern, HGTV-slash-Apple-Store home décor. The top of the Mini is covered in a textured fabric, which looks great when it’s brand-new, but I worry that it will become a dust collector in short time. Having to vacuum the top of my smart speaker instead of just wiping it off with a rag is something I never thought I’d have to consider, yet here we are. Cat owners may also have to contend with their pets viewing the Mini as a toy or scratching pad. There is a huge number of ways that you can make your home smart and improve the way that you live.

It does look very cool and presents nicely, but that clearly comes at a cost to the product’s usability and longevity. As you will be using Google Assistant automatically whenever you access a Google smart home device, there’s little need to refer to it directly. Google Home, Nest, and Assistant are all entirely different things, despite overlapping in some areas. So, if you’ve ever wondered what the difference between the three is, don’t worry—it’s not as complicated as it might initially seem.

Still, the Home Mini holds its own, and does so in a form factor that is less than a quarter the size of the Google Home itself. And if the sound quality from the Home Mini isn't good enough, it supports outputting music to a Chromecast Audio-connected speaker system. The Home Mini is significantly smaller and doesn't have the same number of features — for obvious reasons. It lacks the top touch controls of the Google Home , and has neither the absolute volume nor the microphone sensitivity of its larger counterpart. Google Home is now over two years old, but it was built with Google Assistant in mind.

Until then, though, these products clearly exist on two different platforms, despite Google’s attempts to mush them together with a name-change. When you purchase through our links we may earn a commission. It covers all the products behind the idea such as the ones listed above, which share the same name as well. But, hey, don’t get scared, the process is extremely easy and if you can install a simple app on your smartphone, you’re more than qualified to do it. Now, without having to install an app you can find Google Assistant in tons of devices. You just need to install a 5 seconds app to have the best virtual assistant right now.

If we have made an error or published misleading information, we will correct or clarify the article. If you see inaccuracies in our content, please report the mistake via this form. Assistant devices such as speakers and displays, including those set up by the removed member, should remain in your home. These devices are no longer linked to the home member you removed. As a test, I tried opening my phone and asking it to turn off these lights at a volume where the Home Mini could not hear me, and I can confirm that this only impacts my phone. I have checked the Home App, and everything looks to be setup correctly.

Checking if the site connection is secure

Google Nest Mini's speakers also produce a higher-quality sound compared to the older model. The Google Nest Mini is the successor of the Google Home Mini. It's affordable and considered Google's current entry-level smart speaker. When looking for an inexpensive smart speaker from Google, you'll come across two options—the Google Home Mini and Google Nest Mini. Google revamped its Works with Nest program over the last few years, and a lot of smart devices have lost compatibility as a result.

That fabric-covered top is also the main physical interface for the Mini, when you don’t want to use your voice to control it. Tapping the left or right side of the disc will lower or raise the volume, while tapping the middle will pause music, stop an alarm, or cancel a command. The touch controls are very sensitive, and a slight brush against it will change the volume or pause music.

They'd tense up around each corner and after opening each door, just waiting on the scare. This is the kind of horror I love, where the fear gets turned on it head. The house really isn’t haunted and the questioning leads to love the characters thought impossible. They said that there was a creepy environment in the game. I've seen gameplay of it so that I could see if it was worth buying but it was extremely unimpressive.

Some may say that marital issues are also scary. If you try to enter the house, you will notice the door is locked. Open the little cabinet on the left side of the porch and find the key underneath the duck. If you have the safe’s manufacturer, model number and serial number, you might be able to get the combination from the manufacturer. Most safe companies have a service that allows you to request the combination or a replacement key.

Many spaces are related to Samantha, the rooms upstairs and the attic that we navigate to, are the main story as it were. The basement, which is literally the undercurrent and subtext, is all Terrence. I love how the game not only plays with narrative theory, but even embodies it by connecting certain spaces and directions to particular plot lines and characters. On 7 June 1995, 21-year-old Katie Greenbriar returns home from overseas to her family's new home in fictional Boon County, Oregon. Her family consists of her father, Terry, a failed writer who makes a living reviewing home electronics; her mother, Janice, a wildlife conservationist who recently got promoted to director; and her 17-year-old sister Samantha . Upon arriving, she finds the house deserted, much of their possessions still in moving boxes, and a note on the door from Sam imploring Katie not to investigate what happened.

Arbor Hill is rife with memories, and can be interpreted as haunted because of this past. Gone Home is a game about intimacy, relationships and secrets, but also about trauma. Some of the objects that you touch in the game are inscribed with this suffering.

Gone Home Is the Most Important Game You’ve Never Played

He's delivered at least 86 yards from scrimmage and/or a touchdown in every appearance, making him the RB16 in fantasy points per game over that stretch. Gone Home may not be the best game you’ve ever played, but it might be one of the most important. It does a great job of bringing the player into this mysterious and fractured world.

Because it kept people in anticipation of a scare, but there never was one. All of us have seen, experienced, or read coming out stories and the fear someone faces when they begin realizing ‘oh I’m gay,’ or bi, or trans, or queer. It’s terrifying, but slowly the terror fades and reveals the astounding, breathtaking, mind-bending truth that there was nothing to fear all long. As Kaitlin explores, she finds dairies, mementos, secret hidey-holes, and unlocks audio logs where Sam slowly reveals the story. I really like the logical consistency and thoughtfulness in this ridiculous charge that just makes you look like reactionary and short-sighted.

The next Steam Deck variant will have an improved screen and battery life, but won’t be stronger

Gone Home highlights a queer character in a way that, from the outside, feels empathetic and caring. The work excels in its focus on something that is clearly very tender and even potentially frightening. While its representative value brought it from the obscure to the mainstream, its broader themes of losing the sense of home and navigating ever-changing family dynamics keep it a timeless title.

That was actually what maintained the creepy feeling for me the fact that some lights were on but some weren't. So I didn't know if there was going to be something at the end of the hallway in that lit room that I was gonna be shocked by. With the fantasy playoffs here, it's more important than ever to load your bench with high-upside backup running backs. Several people questioned our ranking of Cooper this week given that he's sitting outside our top 36 at the position. This isn't the week to trust Carr in your fantasy lineup.

But i guess to actually answer your question no it is not really a horror game, although there are some mildly scary parts. Gone Home is a walking simulator developed by Fullbright, and first released on PC, Mac, and Linux in August 2013. In Inside’s secret ending, players find themselves in another bunker and must power down one of the mind control helmets by pulling its plug. After this, the boy loses his free will and falls into the same position as the other mindless drones found throughout the game. The safe contains Oscar’s old medical supplies, and a note adressed to his sister begging for forgiveness for a “transgression.” Word of God says he abused his nephew, Terrence, who is also Sam and Kate’s father.

For instance, height measurements which suddenly stop. A broken toy on the floor that suggests a child has been in the basement. It’s quite clear what the transgression was.

Gone Homedid what a horror game should do, it took the every day and made it eerie and chilling. Who hasn’t had the experience of coming home to a dark house and wondering, if only for a second, what if there really are things in the dark out to get me? What if I was wrong about reality this whole time? And as you’re wondering that, you run across Ouija boards, and a family member’s attempts to find a ghost. One of the most talked-about games of the 2010s is Gone Home, which was first released in 2013.

But it was Gone Home’s cultural success, more so than its commercial victories, that helped catalyze what I like to think of as the decade of the walking simulator.
